MARIA I. CHATZAKI

Artist's Statement

"But I do know, that many of those who are driven to this life are desperately searching for those pockets of silence where we can root and grow."

M. Rothko

Maria Chatzaki extensively studied colors, shades, and tones, as well as their interaction with each other." This was contributed to by the painting exercise with traditional mediums, acrylics on canvas, and the study of the artistic and literary work of M. Rothko, J. Itten, J. Alberts, P. Klee.

She explored the intensity of primary and secondary colors in a series of studies - large-scale works, which she composed and presented in a unified wall installation for her diploma project at the School of Fine Arts of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, titled "ATTENTION colors."

She has been preoccupied with the "here and now" of the work, "its unique presence in the specific place it occupies," according to Benjamin in the book "The Work of Art in the Age of Mechanical Reproduction," and she sought to understand the concept of "aura," which he describes as "the unique experience of a distance, no matter how close it may be to us."

It does not "fear" concepts such as sensations, emotion, sensitivity, aesthetics, empathy. Words that have the same root in the Greek language. He also doubts that these are concepts that conflict with the intellect and logic. He believes that it is equally important to explore.

Today, inspired by the emotions evoked by her favorite music, she experiments with the relationship between music and imagery, attempting to transform the encoding of music, the score, into a visual encoding. He uses page layout design software and tests the export of new artistic forms.

Ultimately, the challenge of emotion or contemplation and reflection through the wandering of the gaze is an element of research that is ongoing, utilizing any means available.
